Bring on the Ashes
A call that seems to be getting louder and more frequent in England is "bring on the Ashes". Finally, the English think they have a cricket team that can challenge the Aussies. The funny thing is, the call is getting louder in Australia too. I've been closely following the fortunes of England in South Africa, willing them to win, grow confidence and above all, avoid injuries to their big guns. What I like about the English team is they're showing a similar gritty character to the Aussies - when they get behind, they don't fall apart but graft their way back into a winning position. After series after series of whitewashes, all we Aussies want is a contest. Of course, while I want a tightly contested series with each test going into the 5th day, Australia still have to crush England in the last session of each match to give us a 5-nil series win. Well, I'll be generous and let the Poms have one test after the series is decided. :-)
