Nice guys New Zealand kick the sledging habit
The pre-series media games continue as New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Mills says there'll be no premeditated sledging against Australia during the forthcoming Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. Now unless this is some sort of devious reverse psychology (perhaps devised by their resident psychologist), I'm not too impressed with this new palsy walsy policy. My respect for Stephen Fleming went up several orders of magnitude when he premeditated sledging his opposition captain (I think it was Graeme Smith) who they'd worked out could be put off his game when personally abused. In contrast, Graeme Smith sledged Michael Vaughan by calling him gay throughout the England tour of South Africa. And this is the guy they chose as the World XI captain. I guess it doesn't really matter either way - it's only a short one day series. It takes the gruelling arena of a 5 day Test match to really get under a player's skin and mess with his head.
