Andrew Symonds goes at spectator with his bat
The main discussion point after the second final (besides Jayawardene's pseudo catch) was Andrew Symonds prodding off a spectator with his bat as he left the field. Apparently, all the victim wanted to do was give Symonds a hug. An encouraging hug might have worked for Adam Gilchrist but Symonds was having none of it. While he certainly did the wrong thing, cricketers should have the right to not be manhandled as they come on and off the field. As it is now, they have to squeeze through a narrow corridor, negotiating a gauntlet of arms, legs and faces (add saliva for South African crowds). What will it be like for the Ashes next summer? I'm imagining Kevin Pietersen shoving his way through a hostile Aussie crowd resembling the start of the first Lord of the Rings movie where Sauron ploughs through the armies of elves and men, hammer swinging and bodies flying through the air. Perhaps increasing the width of the walkway is a bad idea - it'll just give the batsman more swinging room!
