India & Pakistan nix Twenty20 World Cup
Pakistan and India have rejected the Twenty20 World Cup. They say it "dilutes the importance of international cricket" which is a bit of lame reason. I wonder what the real reason is - are they just wanting to stick it to the ICC? I wonder if this will kill the whole concept or whether the ICC will still persist with the event. Considering the huge bucks that come from India, primarily TV rights, it looks shaky. I hope it does go ahead - the event would hardly take very long and would be a great way to promote and further cricket's profile.
Pakistan and India will also be bidding to host the 2011 World Cup, going up against Australian and NZ. I wonder if the combative approach they've taken with the ICC, not only with the Twenty20 World Cup but also with India boycotting the Champion's Trophy, will harm their chances of winning the bid. As an Australian keen on a home World Cup, I'm hoping so :-)

I'm glad that the Indian Board has taken a combative route with the ICC. For too long now, India has been getting the shaft, considering the dough they bring in. Everybody knows cricket is just business, its as simple as that, we'd be fooling ourselves otherwise. So, going by pure financial reasons, why shouldn't a firm maximize its earning potential? The ICC and other crtics are now taking the moral highground? Gimme a break. As far as the WC goes, just take a quick peek at who's actually sponsoring it..Indian/India-based companies. Its the $$ boys..it sure talks!
