Shane Watson disappointed over Jeff Thomson's arsehole insult
Illustrating the difference between modern cricketers and 70's cricketers, Shane Watson has expressed "disappointment" at Jeff Thomson's insults. And as far as insults go, this one was up there - apparently Shane Watson doesn't even rate compared to an all rounders arsehole. Modern sportsmen seem to use the word "disappointed" a lot these days. A guy could get shot in the gut and express disappointment at the gunman's poor decision making abilities while still conceding his aim was good and hand steady while pulling the trigger (in the end, he's taking it one bullet at a time). Watson's words:
"Hearing (Thomson's comments) was really disappointing because obviously it's his opinion and obviously it was (said) in my hometown, which is also disappointing. But all I'm trying to do is the best I can and I've been the first one to admit my bowling is something that I'm working extremely hard on. That's why I've gone to see Dennis Lillee and try and do everything I can to improve my bowling to be the best bowler I possibly can and hopefully be a really good Test all rounder. He was such a great bowler but for Queensland cricket, and obviously Australian cricket, if he thinks he can help me out, then it's only going to benefit all of us. Instead of canning me in the press, it would probably be better to come and talk to me and try and help me improve."Geez, could Watson be any more of an all-round nice guy? He's so grounded and well adjusted, it's annoying! Add to the mix that he's a bit of a pretty boy, it's no wonder Thommo hates him! In some ways, it's refreshing to hear Jeff Thomson's old school candour, even if he is a bit of a lunatic. I'm not so sure about Watson inviting Thomson to help him with his bowling though. Just how much can you learn from a guy whose technique was to "just shuffle up and go wang".
