Ntini humiliates Australian batsmen to win 2nd ODI
I opted for a good night's sleep rather than monitor the 2nd ODI between Australia and South Africa (it started at 10.30pm local time). Waking up to find that South Africa scored 289 while Australia were dismissed for 93 to lose by a staggering 196 runs, I didn't regret my decision at all. It was an evening full of records. Ntini's 6 for 22 were the best ever bowling figures by a South African. At one stage, Australia were 4 for 7 which beggars belief. It was the highest winning margin between the 2 sides (by a long way, the next highest margin was 109 runs) and Australia's 4th ever lowest total. Part of me didn't mind if we struggled in South Africa as it would help cull the chaff from the Australian side (eg - drop Martyn and move Jaques to opener). But not a humiliation this great! The South African crowds must be in heaven!
I mentioned a few days ago that all the momentum was with South Africa. I've seen Australia fight out of difficult times before and thought they might still pull off a miracle. But even I wasn't prepared for last night's debacle. Australia just don't tour very well these days - this is like the Ashes all over. Let's bring Zimbabwe into a tri-series - they'll probably beat us too.
