Andrew Symonds axed!

Happy days! Andrew Symonds has been axed from the Australian Test side! It can't all be good news as Jason Gillespie is back in the side with Michael Clark, taking us pretty much back to the team that lost the Ashes. Nevertheless, it's great to see Australia go into the 1st Test with 5 bowlers: the 3 quicks Brett Lee, Gillespie, Stuart Clark and 2 spinners Warnie and Stuart MacGill. The only downside of picking 5 bowlers is Phil Jaques missed out with Mike Hussey being bounced to opener again. The continual changing from middle order to opener and back again better not disrupt Hussey's fantastic run of form which has continued pretty much from the day he put on the baggy green.

Ultimately, let's hope this isn't just a chop and change thing just for Bangladesh but the direction the selectors hope to go in for the Ashes. Jettison Gillespie for Glenn McGrath and the side is just about right.

While I don't celebrate as loudly as you I think sidelining Symmo from the test team is the right move. He realizes I hope that there is no shame in being the best ODI player on the #1 ODI team.
I don't share your skepticism of Gillespie's demise and I don't think he will be on the outs automatically when McGrath returns. He and Macgilla may switch in the team as conditions dictate. I don't see Tait or Bracken or Johnson ahead of Mullet.
The final change in the team is not as welcome by me. I would have preferred Jaques for Clarke. A place should be deserved not on sentiment alone.

Good point about Jaques - it would've been nice to open with Jaques and keep Hussey in the middle order. It's Clarke's young age that is what's going for him - while bringing back all the oldies, the selectors are still keeping one eye on the future.

That's Right! Andrew 20/20 Symonds is useless at test level. Can't bowl for sh*t. Can't defend for sh*t. All he does is bludgeon em; it looks cool, until he gets stumped like a bitch!
Jason Gillespe's 201 - he is the true allrounder.. and don't forget Brett Lee. Good test bowlers should develop their batting skills, not the other way around.
