Matt Hayden reveals England didn't defeat Australia... God did
Wisden have published a fascinating interview with Matthew Hayden about the Ashes. Hayden is always good for a bit of psychobabble and double talk and he doesn't fail to disappoint this time around. The highlight was when asked what went wrong with the Ashes:
"In the first Test we smashed them; in the second Test God himself reached down and plucked McGrath out of the pit."It all becomes clear now. We weren't beaten by England. We weren't out-thought, outplayed or done in by superior strategy. Nope, it was an act of God that did us in! I've seen the Australians players dodge accountability after the Ashes with a variety of excuses. Ponting blamed substitute fielders. Damien Martyn blamed dodgy umpiring. John Buchanan didn't blame anyone because he was too busy "taking positives" out of our losses. It's not until now that I've heard of divine intervention as a reason for our loss.

If Aussies beat England so will it be God defeating ENgland or England defeating themselves?

Quite obviously, it will be Matt Hayden defeating England (at least according to Matt Hayden).

It doesn't matter how or why we lost the ashes now we must decide how we will celebrate when we win them back.

in a way, he is right, ENG didnt beat AUS, as it was a SA (KP) who thwarted the AUS.
