Darrell Hair sacked by ICC
In news that could be filed in the "it's about time" box, Darrell Hair has been sacked from the elite panel of ICC umpires. I'm not really surprised - with roughly half the international cricket countries refusing to play under Hair, it was never a tenable situation. The only surprise is it took this long. I place the blame of the whole ball tampering/forfeit incident largely in his lap (although Pakistan could've handled it better). His reaction afterwards to ask for $658,000 if he resigned was typical of the arrogance of the man. As was his unrepentant attitude afterwards, summed up when he described himself as "bloody good". I honestly couldn't say whether the man is racist although his worst incidents do seem to come up against subcontinent countries. But hey, you don't need to be racist to be an arrogant jerk.

don't quite agree with Hair's removal... a "black/brown" bloc seems to have cartelled together to get him out...there wasn't any good reason.
ps: before the readers accuse of me of any racist tones, let me tell you that i am an indian & brown

I confess I'm not that up on the whole politics of Asian cricket and how that ties in with the decision to cut Hair (sorry, couldn't resist yet another Hair pun). Nevertheless after the complete balls-up he made of the ball tampering issue, I don't see how he could practically be retained as an elite panel umpire. The are only a couple of countries he can realistically preside over in international matches. And I think he lacks the sensitivity that is required in international cricket. And well, he just ticks me off, there, I said it.
