Australia shove BCCI boss after winning Champion's Trophy
I just managed to see footage of the Australians receiving the Champion's Trophy earlier this week (this is the first time I've attempted to embed YouTube footage so let's hope it works okay). It's an extraordinary display of disrespect towards BCCI boss Pawar from Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn - you expect that kind of behaviour from schoolkids at an overlong awards ceremony, not from professional sportsmen representing their country and the Australian captain. You could blame it on the euphoria of the moment but Ponting's response afterwards wasn't much better when asked if he would apologise:
"If we all feel that it's relevant then I'll certainly do that."That's the kind of evasion I expect from our Prime Minister apologising to the stolen generation. Cricket Australia head James Sutherland was worse:
"Perhaps sometimes these things can happen between different cultures""Different cultures"?! I never realised that acting like arrogant brutes was okay behaviour in Australia. The only good thing that came out of it was Pawar's mature response: "It was a small thing, a stupid thing". It wasn't a small thing but all credit to him for saying so.

Pawar seems to be only one who came out with his honour intact and not RP and his brats. It was disgraceful especially RP calling for the trophy !

Ponting's little tap on the shoulder seemed to be in good fun, Pewar had a big grin when he turned around.
Martyn on the other hand... what can I say?
I'm very disappointed.

Augh, the 'D' word again!
I wasn't that impressed with Punter either. The little 'hand it over' hand signal he gave him, very cheeky. I'm not sure how soon after the game was the awards ceremony but surely the boys hadn't sunk enough beers to justify that kind of behaviour. Drunk on their own power, methinks.

I quite like the kind of 'raised eyebrow, i'm not allowed to say what i really think about this but you can guess' look that the newsreader gives at the end of the report.

It reminds me of when George Bush had a press conference with Australian Prime Minister John Howard and Bush made several jokes mocking Howard's personal appearance. Making fun of our leader is like a national pasttime here (I mean come on, the guy is pretty funny) but when an arrogant foreigner comes in and does it, it's amusing at first but ultimately leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Ricky Ponting and his team should Apologies BCCI Chife Sharad Pawar
for their behaviour.
What ponting will fill if John Howard is treated same way.
They are are champs but they should respect cricket and the people who respect cricket.

It's amazing how some things can get totally blown out of proportion. Before the trophy was handed over, pictures were taken with the official. Then it was like ok get your tail off the stage so we can have our own photo..... Fair enough. Maybe it could have been handled better but those guys were stoked and in the moment. Seems like people are running out of things to talk about.

Ashish,
You should improve your language or you end up embarassing your country everywhere...

No problem here with what I'm seeing JC. The usual post-match shambles looked like it was dragging on (watch Clark's face) and the highly motivated and elated winners were getting frustrated with with the nonsense. Might be a little deeper though - I have a sneaky suspicion that the Indians like to think they control the game...

Anon,
Since one Indian's (Ashish) poor English is a fair representation of an entire country's image, I should be calling all Australians racist pigs!
Virtualgalz,
Perhaps you came in a bit late, but your suspicion is true. Indians do control the game now!

Guys grow up . It was the excitement to hold the trophy that led the Aussies to be impatient. It could have been any other team for that matter . I am indian living in australia and i can never believe that they are racists or anything close to it .Lets move on , its the game that matters

I don't think the Aussies were being racist when they pushed Pawar around. They were just disrespectful jerks which was poor behaviour for professional sportsmen representing their country.

Im an inidan too..but I hate the thought ofc alling anyone a racist. there are good and bad people everywhere in the world. I live in australia and most of auzzi are very cultured and sensitive people.Everyone knows ponting squad is a bit smug but they have a reason to be like that..if you want to make a point beat them in the game, win the world cup

Aussies have shown a total lack of judgement. More retraint is needed by them.

not really, u cud argue the other way easily, pawar had no reason to stick around when photos were being taken, is he part of the aussie team?? think about every other occassion, both cricket and other sports, where a team is handed a trophy, the trophy hander doesnt stick around to block the cameras way of the winning team..its really absolutely no deal whatsoever...u idiots will just take any chance to have a go at australia.
