Allan Border labels South Africa chokers

Now that the Australian summer is officially over, it's time to kick off the World Cup verbal sparring. Allan Border is first to join the fray, labelling the Proteas as chokers:

"They have got to shake that chokers tag. They keep missing out in the big moments, the big tournaments. They are a quality team, they deserve that No.1 ranking at the moment (but going) into the World Cup, do you want that around your neck or not?"

Considering we're sitting on a 5 match losing streak, lost to South Africa 3-2 last year and just surrendered our #1 ranking to them, I don't know if we're in a position to deride the Saffers. Thanks, AB, our first real challenge in the World Cup is South Africa on March 24 and you've just handed them a meaty serving of motivation on a platter.

So, Australia deliberately lost all their recent ODIs because they didn't want the No. 1 status "hanging around their necks"?

South Africa have a choker's tag from previous World Cups. Allan Border didn't give it to them. You are misquoting him. Not befitting such a quality blog as this. Besides, if you start misquoting and sensationalising then we'll have nothing to do.

I don't see how it's misquoting as its a direct quote (unless the article I quoted is misquoting). Nevertheless, I'm surprised and flattered that you would consider me above misquoting and sensationalising.

I can't see much distinction between saying "South Africa are chokers" and "South Africa have the label of chokers" unless he was saying "they have the undeserved label of chokers". That he wasn't. But don't get me wrong - I've hero worshipped AB since I was a little kid and have the highest respect for him. I appreciate his straight talking. I love stories of his Captain Grumpy days. I also think his comments about South African choking is waving a red flag to a bull similar to Buck's "our bowlers need a challenge" comment earlier in the summer.

Chokers South Africa Does it again !!! South Africa deserve to be awarded the "chokers" of the Decade award !!!
How many times South africans keep lossing in key matches. Today again they lost to India in what is virtually a quaterfinal match. They need to score 128 to be in the semifinal. This time in T20 they not only lost to india but lost a semifinal birth in twenty 20 world cup.

I'm a South African and have to acknowledge the fact that we are chokers. It's not what i want, i don't enjoy mocking my own country. If you can't accept the situation, (and just deny it) you wouldn't get better.
