Pakistan and India lose to minnows!

I am gobsmacked. I've been talking up Bangladesh lately but for them to defeat India by 5 wickets is a huge, huge upset. This after India comfortably defeated home team the West Indies. But the hits just keep on coming as in an even bigger upset, Pakistan lost to Ireland. Stunning!

Are the minnow games having a complacency effect on the Test countries? Or are the players succumbing to the carnival nature of a Caribbean World Cup? There was news that some West Indies players were out clubbing to the wee hours of the morning last week. And last night, four England players were fined for late night partying.

But it gets worse (or better from my point of view). Andrew Flintoff had to be rescued, in cricket gear clutching a beer bottle, after capsizing at sea. I can just imagine the "sinking ship" metaphors in the English tabloids. Flintoff has been quoted recently as saying the World Cup is as important as the Ashes. The way they've been hitting the bottle, it looks like they're going to be about as successful as they were in the last Ashes.

Pakistan losing to Ireland is no consolation for Indians to see their team going down to Bangladesh.

Admittedly, Bangladesh played like tigers, and outbatted, outbowled and outfielded India. Indians can offer no excuses, not a bit!

But, rewind back to 2003 and what have you.. India lost their opening match against Australia and in a listless display, just managed to scrape home against Netherlands. Shortly thereafter, effigies of Ganguly & Co. were burnt in India.

Effigies burnt, and with smell of burnt tyre and soot in the air, India turned around with a 8-match winning spree, only to be halted in the finals by the machine-like Ozzies.

So, will somebody quickly burn the effigy of Dravid and have the formality done and dusted at the earliest? After that, we can get on with the game!

The Irish barely got over the hangover after the St. Patrick bash, must be fully drowned in their fave poison after their victory against the Paks.

Cheers

Do you ever get the feeling some people in Pakistan take Cricket a little too seriously?

"The mob was heard chanting, "Death to Bob Woolmer , death to Inzamam, death to Nasim Ashraf - police should arrest them"
I guess its one way to motivate the team.

Congrats to Ireland and Bangladesh, it must have been the "inspirational" chat from Ponting.

Not only the defeats but the nature of defeats was even more telling. Both India and Pakistan were comprehensively outplayed in all three departments and it was a complete reversal of tags of minnows and majors. Both the teams did not stand a chance after losing first couple of over and the inexperiences sides played like true professionals, never allowing them to come back in.

Well the mob in Pakistan got their first wish fulfilled. I am positive Woolmer has been done in by a crazed Paki nut. Shocking isnt the word for it.
