Australia's Super 8 schedule
Now the Super 8 teams are locked in, it's time to pencil in my sleeping schedule (or lack thereof) over the following month. Channel 9 are finally broadcasting Australia's games so I'm going to have to start adjusting my body clock to Caribbean time. Here are Australia's Super 8 matches:
- Tue 27 Mar: Australia vs West Indies
- Sat 31 Mar: Australia vs Bangladesh (payback time)
- Sun 8 Apr: Australia vs England (more payback for the Tri-Series!)
- Fri 13 Apr: Australia vs Ireland
- Mon 16 Apr: Australia vs Sri Lanka
- Fri 20 Apr: Australia vs New Zealand (revenge for the Chappell Hadlee debacle)
Australia begins the Super 8's later tonight against the West Indies (starts 11.30pm Brisbane time). Australia should win against the unpredictable West Indies although home side advantage could play a part. Or not. What with Matt Hayden being awarded Caribbean citizenship, perhaps we can claim some of our own home ground advantage this tournament. Does this mean if Australia fail to progress but West Indies make the semi-finals, Haydos can join their squad?

Smart thinking Haydos. Now you can play til you're 60.

Hey John, is it only going to be for the Australian matches or are they showing all the matches?

I haven't checked but I imagine only Aussie games. BTW, check your local guide to confirm whether it's 11.30 in other states (I think you guys have just finished DST but best to be sure).

Hey guys, did anyone notice that up until a couple of days ago, cricinfo had this schedule but baggygreen had A1 v D2 as the 1st game. This was Aus v Ire, then Eng v WI and Aus v Bang and so on... I liked this schedule a lot. Turns out I got all excited for nothing as it was a balls up. They have since corrected it, sob, sob... (or was that the leaked scripted version ??????????)

Yea I noticed that too Virtual Gaz. Either they got it wrong, or maybe this schedule is better for ratings?

A1 and A2, B1 and B2, etc, etc mean nothing in terms of the points table. It's alphabetical. Even if SA finished on top of group A, Australia still would have qualified as A1. This helps TV programmers and fans who might want to travel to see the games.
A1 - Australia, A2 - South Africa
B1 - Bangladesh, B2 - Sri Lanka
C1 - England, C2 - New Zealand
D1 - Ireland, D2 - West Indies
Hope this helps.

I think the A1, A2 etc were seedings based on past World Cup performances. So Aus was A1, SA was A2 even though the ICC rankings were the other way round. But if a minnow defeated one of the other teams, they inherited that ranking. So Ireland inherited Pakistan's ranking and Bangladesh got India's. make sense?
The rankings aren't an advantage becase each team has to play all the others i nthe Super 8s once anyway.
They did it this way so fans could book ahead- assuming their team got through to the super 8s that is!
