JC's Law
There's a famous rule Godwin's Law which predicts the inevitable eventuality when fierce online debate rages:
"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."Apparently in a flame war, there's no greater insult than comparing your opponent to Nazis. I've been following the global warming argument closely of late and I've noticed both sides often fulfill Godwin's Law. Global warming advocates liken skeptics to Holocaust deniers (akin to a Nazi). Skeptics compare Al Gore's public awareness campaign to Nazi-like propoganda. It's lazy debating - why discuss the issues with facts and logic when you can easily write off your opponent with a derogatory label?
I've noticed a similar event occurs when cricket fans argue online about Australian cricket. It's even happened several times on cricket-blog recently over SquashBallGate. So it's time for cricket to have its own version of Godwin's Law which I've rather unimaginatively title "JC's law":
"As an online discussion involving Australian cricket grows longer, the probability of invoking Australia's convict past approaches one."

Yeah, like the only place on the globe where there were baddies became Australia.
I find it extremely humourous that the place that dumped its so-called crims ended up in a worse state down the track than where they were made to set up shop - eventually becoming not only the greatest country to live in, but the greatest of all sporting (and cricketing) nations!

Nah MT, Howard and Downer have always pushed the Zimbabwe issue. They are the principle driving force for action to be taken against Mugabe. They were the ones pushing for the suspension or expulsion of Zimbabwe from the Commonwealth, while Mugabe still has power.

The government expressed reservations in 2003 and 2004, but didn't ban it then, even though some other countries forfeited matches during the 2003 WC. Howard in the past has opposed sporting boycotts - he even opposed the sports boycott of South Africa in the apartheid era. So why now?
Aus also played against Zim in a warm up match in the World Cup a few weeks ago.
I'm sure the opportunity to look statesman like in a tight election year would have crossed Howard's mind.
As for the convict comments - I usually take them to mean the other side has run out of ideas and is losing the argument!

I have a good laugh at people who think they are insulting us (speaking as an aussie), by calling us convicts. It is no stain on my past and is more than irrelevant to whats happening today.
