Yuvraj Singh carts Stuart Broad for six sixes
Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, here's an opportunity to wake ourselves from the snooze-fest that was Australia vs Sri Lanka (and I'm not talking about late hours - the game aired at 6:30pm). Witness Yuvraj Singh hit an extraordinary six consecutive sixes against Stuart "di Caprio" Broad:
I'd almost feel sorry for Broad if he weren't English!

This is why 20/20 cricket is a waste of time for a young cricketer, especially a bowler. What benefit is there for Stuey Broad to be at the 20/20 cup? He can't bowl as he would in a test or ODI as he knows every batter is looking to slog. 20/20 is only going to encourage slogging, leading to the detrement in technique of batters and bowlers. Play oldies in 20/20 don't waste the next generations time!!!

Some of the cleanest hitting I've seen. The bats are getting better but the timing on some of those shots were brilliant.I'd rate this one higher than Gibbs'6 sixes because it came against a fast bowler.Freddie....you shud have kept your mouth shut!
also nice to see you posting again JC...u must have been suffering from the World cup bore syndrome..by the way is that tournament still going on?!

The downtime was a bit of burn-out after the World Cup plus I got sidetracked working on another website all about global warming science. Two blogs - sport and science. A bit like Spock being half Vulcan, half human - two polar opposite natures always struggling against each other.

Thanks for the video. I will lift it and post on my blog too. Hope ya don't mind.
Now my crush on Broad is known to everybody, but I was really happy to see Yuvraj bombarding.
That was the highlight of his career. Also, I guess he was a little pissed after Mascarahens (sp?) beat him like a spaghetti in the Natwest trophy. This was a strike-back of sorts.

Tim - you say play the oldies for 20/20 and save the gen next for the Tests?
Do you expect the oldies to throw themselves around and field like tigers .... which is a must in 20/20?
Take India for instance. RP Singh is almost as young as Stuart Broad. Saw the difference in bowling between the two?
The surrender of the English to Indians is typical sissy-Pommie stuff. In my opinion, there are only 2 consistent performers in the team i.e. Pieterson and Collingwood (Sorry, Freddie.. you talk more and injured on the bench even more than playing)... all other Poms are just that - sissies.
Cheers

Mahesh, first of all you must not read form into any performance during a 20-20 game, that is ludicrous. Also, there is no need to throw yourself around in the field for 20-20 because:
a) you may injure yourself and not be able to play in real cricket
b) most of the balls will be slogged and therefore go over your head
c) if you catch it it may no\t be out
Leave this format to the olds and has-beens while upcoming talent can concentrate on the proper game, as nature intended.
Hope I've cleared this one up for you.

I will be terribly upset if T20 is the future of cricket. There are a few reasons on why T20 isnt my preferred game:
1)SAVE THE BOWLERS!what use is it running up to bowl and know that you are going to get slogged? Also the art of spin will eventually die out.Apart from Dan Vettori, the spinners have been mauled. The outcome:they are just bowling flat fast off cutters and leg cutters.Flight, guile, and beating the batsmen in the air are all a thing of the past. Also when fast bowlers dont pitch the ball up even in test matches fearing they will be hit, what to be said of 2020?Many say that there is more pressure on the batsmen because they are expected to score 10 per over...but if you prepare featherbeds to encourage big scores and boundaries, the bowlers dont have much hope,Which brings me to my next point...
2)Better Pitches please-If you have observed in this tournament, the good matches have been the ones where there has been a good contest between bat and ball not slogfests. The 4's and 6's maybe exciting at first, but then they start to numb you.Lets hope the curators take the cue.
3)Risk factor gone:There is a certain thrill when watching someone like a Gilchrist or Tendulkar coming down the track and attacking in the first few overs of a 50 over game, because they are taking a risk.Whereas in T20 the batsmen are almost never taking a risk as they are going Gung Ho from ball 1 itself. It adds a bit of predictability to the game and fields will become more standard to accomodate the slam bang type of game.
4)Skill factor reduced-Why is cricket one of the great games of the world?because there are a number of skills you need to master to become truly great. In T20 sloggers and power hitters will rule the game.We will lose touch artists which brings me to my final point.
5)With the new age of power hitting we may never see skilled artists again.Touch players like Damien Martyn and VVS Laxman will lose out. This also refers to bowlers as well.I cant see a great bowler like Shane Warne succeeding in T20 as he relied on flight. If he were to flight the ball we may see another set of 6 sixes. So he would have to flatten his trajectory as well, which would make him one among the crowd, not the greatest spin bowler the game has ever seen.
Some of the advantages I can see in T20 is that the reduced overs make matches more unpredictable and the reduced duration and big hitting, good fielding, and stumps flying brings more people to the game.It is good in one way but it is indeed sad to see that todays audience don't appreciate true cricket, the one which players enjoy playing and purists, the people who understand the game, love watching. But thats the word "purists".I may be one of them.I dont mind a one off T20 but would prefer good quality test cricket anyday.I guess if T20 brings more people to appreciate this wonderful game it would have done some service. But I would indeed be saddened if when India tour England
in 2011,the calendar would read,"1 test match,3 ODI's and 7 T20 internationals".What do all of you think? If T20 is the future of the game..is it a bright one?

I see some of the comments on here are taking the turn they usually do when talking about England.
People can't make a case so they start using the term 'pommy'.
This is a racial slur and it shouldn't be used. It would be a different story if English people called Pakistan players 'paki' wouldn't it!!

Dude, POM is term of endearment. Besides, Pommies aren't a race!
Aussies, Kiwis, Pakis, Bangas, Zimbs, Saffers, Poms - all sporting/cricketing terms of endearment I'm afraid. We should ensure these never disappear and use them more!

Well said virtualgaz, the only thing worse than a Pom is a Pom who'se sensitive about being called... a POM!
Re Zimbs, they prefer Zimbo's.. I'm engaged to one and she laughed at the Zimbs term ;)
I'm waiting for next time we play Bangas so I can use the headline "Bangas get mashed".. will be worth writing an article just to use it..
I wonder what Freddie said to spark those fireworks..
