Stuart Clark predicts two series whitewashes

Stuart Clark bowls like Glenn McGrath. He's from the same state. They're both tall. Hell, they even look similar. Come to think of it, have both ever been seen in the same room at the same time? Now MiniMcGrath, as he shall now be called, has adopted Pigeon's cringeworthy habit of predicting series whitewashes:
"It's going to be a great summer with Sri Lanka and India coming out. And hopefully the fans can come out and support us and we can bring home 4-0 and 2-0 series wins." Quizzed further on the prospect of a series whitewash against both India and Sri Lanka, Clark said: "I have just predicted 4-0 and 2-0."
Nothing like handing the opposition a healthy serving of motivation on a platter. Problem is, those kind of predictions were a safer bet when you had history's greatest ever legspinner in your team. Taking 20 wickets will be a more daunting prospect in this new post-Warne period. I hope Clark's right, although I also hope each Test is tightly contested, ending in the last session of the 5th day with an Australian win. Not too much to ask, is it?

Clark's good. But he ain't pigeon. The only bowlers remotely likely to hall in five-for after five-for are probably the spinners on the other team. We're in for a good summer.

Lol classic. I am sure Clark said that all with a smile on his face.

But if you think about it would you really want any of our players to say that they think they can't win any game? Its the wrong frame of mind to enter any series thinking you can't win all the games? That to me is aggressive thinking.

Well, I'm kinda mixed on the topic. On the other hand, you don't want to end up with egg on your face, talking big before a game like KP before we played them in the Twenty20 world cup. It can also motivate the opposition.

On the other hand, listening to the bland "I'm taking it one game at a time" and "we're quietly confident" is pretty frustrating, maybe even disappointing if I may use the D-word. So good on MiniMcGrath for having a crack. Let's hope he backs it up. As TA says, should be a good summer as last time Australia were Warneless, India retained the Gavaskar/Border trophy in Australia.

haha it's going to be interesting, even if it doesnt end up being 4 - 0, i hope clarky does well in all the tests.
my prediction though: australia will beat sri lanka 1-0, and will beat India either 2 -0 or 2 - 1. But hey it will be closer then the eventual score suggests.

In my opinion we're going to see 3 of the top 4 teams in world cricket in Austrlaia this summer. Anybody feel otherwise?

I'm eagerly looking forward to the one day tournament as well, India will want to get back at Sri lanka for kicking them out of the world cup, Sri lanka will want to get back at Australia for beating them in the final.. and Australia will want to really really beat India for what happened in the T20 semi. So there is definetly no shortage of motivation this summer.

Good on Clarke.. and JC, sure we'll miss history's greatest legspinner... fortunately we have another legspinner who's fairly handy.

Johan,
Who cares about T20? Clearly Aus are going to whitewash the CB series and Test Series against both the overrated teams. IMHO Sri Lanka is going to be tougher than India unless the Indians can find some proper bowlers in two months time.

Predicting wont be the same post the Ashes retirements.I think Langer will be sorely missed at the top.In my opinion Hussey should open. There will be a few changes and winning "4-0 and 2-0" isnt as easy as it sounds.

But heck, this is australia you are talking about and they did predict a 5-0 ashes win which went to perfection so you wouldn't want to bet against them!

I tend to agree with Andrew (Phew...finally on something!) that Clark would have definitely made the remark with a smile.

Clark may not be Pigeon yet, but to me, he is the most potent weapon, though rarely used by Punter. Bracken gets chosen ahead of Clark once too often. Ok,ok it is the selectors who make decisions on who to play and who not. But, Ponting does have a say in the final XI, and you see Clark carrying the towel more often than the ball.

Probably, I am prejudiced in favour of Clark because he is got an almost un-Ozzie like persona.. i.e. he doesnt seem a sledger... for that matter, you dont see him opening his mouth at all. He just bowls, and how well.

Cheers
Mahesh
