Fatty Macgill porking up for his country
Stuart Macgill has had a funny career (not funny ha ha). He takes more wickets per Test than Shane Warne. He once took a 9-for then was dropped with noone batting an eyelid. No wonder he's so angry all the time. However, when Shane Warne announced his retirement last summer, the wails from Australian fans were only surpassed by the exultant whooping from chez Macgill.
Now, having been anointed by Shane Warne as his successor, Macgilla is so confident he's got a lock on the Australian legspinner position, he's even fattening up to better resemble the rotund Warnie:
"There is no doubt I am overweight. I don't know how far over I am. I just don't feel all that comfortable at the moment … But I'd argue that, historically speaking, cricketers have proven - as I have over the last five years - that weight is not a selection criteria. Nor does carrying a couple of kilos preclude you from taking a couple of wickets. Because I've done it for the first few years."At least a nickname like Gorilla Macgilla (usually referencing his aggressive personality) is easily adapted to his expanding girth.

I would like to see Macgill play in Brisbane but the way he carries on in the SMH interview - geez, he's a hard guy to like.

You have got to love a sport where bulge and class have little to no relationship.
Actually, my diet book told me you won't pork out if you drink wine instead of beer (Gorilla's a bit of a wine connoisseur I hear). I see now that it's all an elaborate lie. I'm suing.

I love after some past Olympics when they were celebrating all of Australia's gold medallists, among the buff swimmers and toned athletes, there was this huge, belly gutted gold medalist for archery. Made me want to take up the sport!
