Warne speaks: goose Buchanon living in pixieland

While he was playing, Shane Warne was renowned for his outspokenness, inappropriate behaviour and ability to make headlines. You'd think now he's given up the game, he'd settle down for a quiet life. You'd think wrong. Just in the last few weeks, he's accused Murali of chucking, taking a sideswipe at Adam Gilchrist (aka Richie Cunningham) by endorsing Michael Clarke as vice captain and now is having a tilt at John Buchanan:
"I disagree with John Buchanan all the time. I don't think he has made one good point in a long time, actually. Everything that I have read that he says, he is living in pixieland.

It just shows what us players had to put up with John Buchanan. We had to listen to his verbal diarrhoea all the time.

He is just a goose and has no idea and lacks common sense, and you can put all that in there (the interview).
He also accuses the Australians of arrogance (how ironic is that?!) and hints that Adam Gilchrist and Matt Hayden should retire but after the Buchanan blast, that's an anti-climax. Some guys just don't know how to retire gracefully.

In amongst the headline grabbing, outspoken stuff, after reading the article in its entirety, I think he makes some sense in certain areas. eg the demise of 50 over cricket, introduction of 40 over cricket (with rule modification- my opinion not his); ageing players all retiring at the same time etc.

Warnie has the best cricketing brain I know of so if he is to play an important role in the future of Aussie cricket down the track, let's cut him some slack. We may not agree with all he says but he sure calls a spade a spade.

Still love him like a brother...if he was convicted of child molestation, or serial killing, well that could change things.

I'd probably forgive him for Ivan Mallat style serial killing (all Poms), but not for Martyn Bryant style serial killing. There is a line!

There's a word for what Warney's doing here, that word being the Campo.

Spot on Warney.Time somebody put a sock up the motor mouth.

And Warney is one of the few sane guys who know that Indians can do some serious damage to this arrogant team as well.

Warne heroics from Daily Telegraph:

How do you bowl to a player of Sachin's class and the likes of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly?

The great players, you have to try and get them out, you can't just bore them out.

That's what I believe was wrong with part of our tactics under John Buchanan and Steve Waugh - they wanted to bowl wide of off-stump and pack the off-side.

You just can't bowl to the great players like that.

You have got to try and get them out otherwise they will bat all day. That's what happened early on in India.

I was so against those tactics. I think the majority of the Indian players, you are not going to over-do the short ball, but there is going to be a lot of short-pitched bowling at the Indians on our wickets.

That's not just to Sachin.

No, sorry, won't have a word said against Warnie as I sit in my WarnieVB blow-up chair, WarnieVB terry towelling hat on and sipping a VB from my talking WarnieVB stubby holder.

Off the field he was doing what many would've done but when it comes to the game, well it's simple... Shane Keith Warne: The Greatest Captain Australia Never Had.

Don't get me wrong, Warnie bowling was the most watchable cricket I've witnessed, slightly pipping Gilly in full flight. And if he'd captained Australia in 2005, we wouldn't have lost the Ashes. But the way he's carrying on since retiring smacks of sour grapes. Not sure what he's so bitter about, he's done it all, won it all, slept with them all. If he's that sour about not playing any more, there is a legspinner position open in the Australian side.

He hasn't slept with me JC. Gaz maybe, going by his lovesick contributions, his recent purchases.
Maybe that's his problem. Warnie, come on down!!!

I think warne has become a pro Indian fan.this one's about sachin
"the best batsman I have played either with or against".

well he might be the best, but warne seems to be authenticating the indian team every few days.I wouldnt be surprised to seem him in MCG waving an indian flag and requesting sachin for an auotgraph.

This ones about fellow leg spinner anil "jumbo" kumble

"one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet" but "also one of the most competitive players going around".

About clarke being appointed vice -captain here's what ponting has to say

"I don't necessarily agree with [Warne],I don't think that needs to be the case right now. Gilly's not going to play forever, we're all not going to play forever, but Michael's opportunity is going to come."
