Australia vs India, 2nd Test, Day 1
There are many questions heading into the 2nd Test. Last time India played at the SCG, they scored 705, thoroughly ruining Steve Waugh's goodbye party. Will the Indian batting adjust to Australian conditions now they've played a full warm-up match (the 1st Test). Will Ponting continue to be Harbhajan's bunny? And most importantly, will Australia equal the Record That Must Not Be Named. On second thoughts, forget I even mentioned it!
As the day unfolds, post your comments and if you want to make it interesting, add your predictions for how the next 5 days will proceed. Live score here

India opening the bowling with a guy that looks like he's fresh out of junior high! Still, he beat Matt Hayden's bat twice in his first over, pretty impressive start

Harbhajan should've had Ponting stumped in his first over which would've had Australia on their knees in the first session. Instead, 2 for 95 at lunch, neither side on top. Good start again from India.

did Punter's bat hit the pitch giving the impression he hit it? Matters not as he's now been given out LBW off a thick edge! They'll still make 350, no worries - even without Mr. Cricket...

Geez, I go to make lunch, Australia lose 3 wickets in 13 balls. 5 for 123. Here is Symond's opportunity to show he can bat at Test level under pressure. Prove me wrong, Roy!

Did anyone remember the last ODI in the 7 match ODI series played in mumbai. Murali karthik nicked one ball to keeper but luckily escaped. And ponting as usual after the match in prize distribution was saying that KARTHIK SHOULD HAVE WALKED AS HE KNEW THAT HE NICKED THAT ONE. Now where was he today when symonds nicked the ball to ISHANT SHARMA. I THINK GILLI AND PONTING SHOULD TEACH THEIR PLAYER FIRST BEFORE TALKING ABOUT OTHERS. I am not blaming symonds becoz its a part of the game and i think what he has done is right but i am just saying that PEOPLE like PONTING always think that they are bigger than this game and always try to teach others what to they should better look at their own team.

yeah Jat, but it's all in the heat of the moment and even at a post-match press conference, spirits will be high and rash things can be said... we have the benefit of hindsight don't you think? I bet Graham Gooch would've loved to rethink the handled ball thing in the sober light of day!

Yeah! You are right i have nothing against steve Bucknor or symonds. Umpires should not be blamed they are human beings after all and nobody is perfect. Its very easy for us to sit here in front of TV and make judgments but its not easy out there in the middle. Finally a wicket for India and kumble. India should take advantage of this and finish the innings as early as possible.

hey jatinder, hope u got a good look of a drunk looking fielder sauntering across to Deep-mid to cut of a symonds pull shot(82.6)but ended up looking like the gate way of india.Guess who it was-YUVRAJ!!!surprise surprise....i know it was the 83 rd over but thats no excuse for a juvenile player like himself.
this just goes to show that past success in LOC does not guarantee anything in test cricket.

HES BACK!!!sresanth is back!!!
He told The Hindu: "I am confident that I will be fit in time for the third Test in Australia. I am feeling good and the ayurvedic treatment I underwent at Coimbatore really helped
so whose gonna break the finger."
There's gonna be a press conference pretty soon.Anil will say pankaj singh (or DK) has unfortunately broke (somethin) therefore he is out for the rest of the series.
ACTUALLY
Gambhir scored a 40 in the ranji trophy to say buh bye to tamil nadu "with an injury"

Well, I could be sour and point out that Roy was out for 30, caught behind (and stumped later on). But all credit, he batted brilliantly today. So maybe, just maybe he's earned his #6 spot.
Put it this way - we'd find room for him at the Cavs anyday :-)

BTW, at 6 for 130, who would've thought Australia would go to stumps at 7 for 376? Just to score 376 runs in a day (let alone 1 over short due to India's shockingly slow over rate despite 45 overs from spinners). Awesome stuff from the Aussies!

Hey vishnu! I am not sure that u have gone through my comment number 14 that i have posted on 4 boxing day test match. It answers all your doubts regarding yuvraj. U dont have any answers for that and after the whole day of your research and finding mistake from india's best fielder u came to the conclusion that he is juvenile(WHO IS OUR BEST FIELDER FROM LAST 7 YEARS). Its sad vishnu that instead of supporting our team in crisis you are looking only for counting the mistakes from our best players. Its really SAD.

Is India the nation of squabblers? We see it regularly in cricket, we see it here at this blog site; when the going gets tough, when decisions go against them, the in-fighting begins. At 6/134 there was total harmony out on the field, in fact it was all quite lovey-dovey. But it sure did deteriorate in the course of the afternoon, to the point where they were abusing each other.
Man of the moment; George Bradley Hogg. Picked up Roy and took them both on to a record partnership. What a shame he's 36 and not 28.
And what a shame Gillie walks. The way the umpires were travelling today he may well have survived that faint nick to first slip.
Roy's the man. But I'm never one to say "I told you so".

DAN we are not fighting with each let me tell you first! Its just that me and vishnu have different opinion about yuvraj! Secondly as i have already said that i have nothing against symonds or bucknor for that wrong decision. I was just saying that ponting and gilli should not teach any other team what should be done it would be better if they first should teach Aussie players before teaching others. Yes symonds and George Bradley Hogg did play brilliantly! I think this match already slipping away from india!

This is EXACTLY what I meant when I said that India lack the killer instinct (refer to my preview) and that Australia's main strength is their tenacity. That characteristic is what made me a fan of theirs and todays performance shows that it hasn't diminished one bit with the retirements of Steve Waugh and Michael Bevan.
India's fielding from all accounts was shoddy and the bowling lacked imagination after they'd out-thought the Aussies in the earlier part of the day. (pt no 2 again, 'The famous Indian droop'!)
Credit to Roy for showing that he deserved his place in the side and this back-to-the-wall innings made many pundits eat their hats, JC, that includes you! :)
400+ looks daunting for the spineless Indian side and I don't think I'm speculating too much when I say that another Aussie win is on the cards.
A win for the Aussies at Perth is a foregone conclusion and after 3-0 I dont think the Indians can stop the Aussie juggernaut at Adelaide.
So, I guess the "record that must not be named" belongs to the Aussies now!

I'll go an extra step from the defensive comments on bucknor said here. That guy doesn't deserve to be an umpire after such a poor decision. ANYONE could hear that nick of Symonds bat. I don't care if Symonds is a great player. If you are a player that talks so much in the press about cricketing values then he should have walked out of the field when he nicked that ball to Dhoni, just like his captain Ricky ponting preaches to the whole world. And that third umpire decision on the stumping, don't even get me started !!

It was a surprise when I watched the first day of second test. Suddenly the ICC rules were changed. You have to OUT the batsmen twice in one innings and only then the batsmen will walk to the pavilion. I think this rule is only for Australian batsmen. Poor Indian team and poor Kumble, it is absolutely impossible to motivate our Indian team after this first day.
Still, I would support our Indian team. Team India, give your best and hope for the rest.

With such horrendous umpiring this game has turned into a farce. It is a known fact that Bucknor holds a grudge against India. Players like Ponting and Symonds should be ashamed. If not walking when they know that they are out is not cheating then I do not know what is. Tendulkar has been robbed many a hundreds by the likes of Bucknor, Harper and Taufel and Ponting has enjoyed so many breaks that in India people get shocked when he is given out LBW.

What India lacks is a quality fast bowler who could rattle the aussie tail, which saves them time and again. It's quite unfortunate that we do not have a plan in place for Symonds or Matt Hayden who have been ruining India's dream time and again. Instead of sending VRV Singh, the board should have considereed sending Sreesanth who has created a bit of tremor with both those batsmen. Anil Kumble, needs to keep a check on Rahul Dravid and keep motivating. It is a good move by him to stick with Dravid and I am sure it will pay off in the 2nd test.

It's too easy to blame the umpires in these situations - none of them are biased, dat's silly talk. The snicks we may hear off the stump mics may not be audible by an ump anyway.
It's the same now as it's always been - some games your team will have to get 13wkt per inns and other times only 8 - that's the beauty of the game!
Umps have got the hardest job of all - it all evens up in the end.

Mr. Ranjeet, dont you think save 2 days, this series has belonged only to 1 team?
It's not that I choose to write "demoralizing comments" on the Indian team, its just that they choose to demoralize me by refusing to put up a fight when they're down on the mat, like Australia and Symonds did yesterday.
And if you stop taking sides and read my points carefully you'll find that I'm right.

Ajesh, a true fan is never demoralized. A true fan always rallies behind a team's bad times. But you don't know squat with your juvenille analysis. I will contradict what you predicted about this game being lost due to our "spineless" team. 2 days gone, 3 more to go.

When Australia is under pressure, We have been instructed to do the following.
Baboon..Andrew Symond...1) Verbally abuse Indian's and falsely blame them for racist remarks
2) Don't walk out when Out
3) Go to the press and make false stories
4) Use Australian Captain who may loose his pride if Harbajan continues to get him out, To lodge a complaint. I am a corrupt monkey but i hate it when the world finds it out.
5) use Chimp, corrupt and spineless Steve Bucknor for complain to ICC to counter a possible complain and international condemnation against open cheating against myself.
CHIMP STEVE BUCKNOR in league with Australian Cricket mafia,,,,,,
1) Give Indians out even when clearly not out
3) Not give Australian players out even if clearly out.
(techniques applied by this biased, poverted black ASS).
a) LBW....All the time Against Indians whether out or not, rarely against Australians whether out or not, never against fellow WestIndian Andrew Symond, whether out or not.
b) Caught...All the time against Indians whether out or not, rarely against his Masters who give him heavy incentive to be openly corrupt and misuse powers given to umpires. But never against fellow baboon Andrew Symond
TEchnique....Blatantly deny genuine appeal by turning it down or call the ball a no ball and get the replay technichian show stepping out even when inreality it is not.
c)Bowled.....Give a no ball, knowing well the technichian will do the needfull by fixing the replay , showing the false stepping out of bowler.
d)Stumping....Always give it out when Indians in play and never when His masters are batting.
Knowing the Cricket mafia will fix it. The replay is going to be fixed in my favour and to the agenda of the Gambling cartel, to whom I am a valuable pawn.
e) Run out..Give out Indians whether out or not, knowing the help available at the channel 9 tv replay team.
These baboons are a disgrace to the game and totally sold out there black ass's to the Cricket underground mafia.and False Australian Cricket pride.
I have been ordered to keep all my wrong decisions discreet and subtle, but I and Andrew Symond are low IQ baboons..no matter how hard we try, we still get found out.. long live cheating umpires and long live my masters who pay so generously to cheat year after year and no one can do anything against the family aof baboons and monkeys... if you want your next series fixed and are looking for a talented and experieced cheater and corrupt umpire don't hesitate to email me at stevebucknor@icc.com.au or email my monkey friend cheatingmonkey@andrewsymond.com.au

Even Australia vs New Zealand the umpires gave catches and LBW's against NZ and for AU especially the one that Clarke causght and the ball clearly hit the ground. The last one day match they played in Australia the umpires were shocking. The Australian sportsmanship is appaling, catches and appeals they know for a fact aren't out buy appeal adamently, and sure enough the umpires are blind or stupid to not ask for the 3rd umpire. A shame to the cricketing world.
NZ did not deserve to win but the umpires are shocking, I remember a guy Darrel Hare that for years was so biased it was un funny.

AUSTRALIA IS RUINING CRICKET... Whey were there only 10,000 people there today? Because the public don't care anymore.
It's not the players fault, but Australia are ruining world cricket. It is never good for a sport when one team dominates so much for so long. But the funny thing is the fact that there is nothing anyone can do about it. Maybe when Hayden and Gilcrest retire it might help a bit, but probably not. Maybe international cricket is truly dead, and the only contest Australians fans can get is in the 20/20 matches.
I am from New Zealand, and I just wish that Shane Bond was always 100% fit, like he was against you guys in the VB series a few years ago. It seems that the Auzzie quicks never seem to get injured!

the SCG, they scored 705, thoroughly ruining Steve Waugh's goodbye party.
