Sonny Bill liked Roy's streaker hit - Gillmeister not so impressed

Some of rugby league's greatest tacklers have rated Andrew Symond's shoulder hit on the Gabba streaker:
Bulldogs superstar Sonny Bill Williams was watching on television. "Hmmm, I'd be happy with that," the Kiwi international mused.

"I'm glad he chose cricket, by the looks of that tackle," Williams said yesterday. "Or if he did, I would like him in my side. He got that streaker horizontal. It's always a good sign of a big tackle when you can get both of the other guy's feet off the ground.

"I'd definitely like to have a tackle like that on my resume … And I don't think that streaker will be running onto cricket grounds any more."

Glowing praise from arguably the "greatest exponent of the shoulder charge in rugby league". However, rugby league's greatest ever tackler (and I'm not just saying that cause I'm a Queenslander) is undoubtedly Trevor Gillmeister, who wasn't quite so glowing with his praise:

"He didn't drive through properly. "He didn't finish the tackle off. And if he's ever going to make it in rugby league, he might want to put a cheap shot in there somewhere, too."

I never knew 'the Axe' was that funny.

Didn't you ever see him drunk on the footy show?

On second thoughts, you're right, he wasn't that funny.

The Axe is never happy. If you had a wet broken leg he'd still say "get up you sook".

I reckon Channel 9 would sell out of stock if they sold signed copies of Roy vs the Streaker.

The streakier got what he deserved.

One day I would like to see both Symonds and Hayden locked up in a cell together with "The great Khali"... that day these two nuthead will realize the limitation of their boxing prowess....

Incredible that some rugby league greats have stooped so low as to comment on this crap...

Fair play for tackling the idiot on the field.

Let us sit and ponder this

"I'd like to have that tackle on my resume"

"I'd like to have that tackle on my resume"

Why not immortalize the tackle by building a statue of it?

The thing that makes me laugh the most is Indian's commenting on NRL greats.
Anything to take a dig at Roy.
Comment on Binga's bollywood performance or something ffs.
Btw I'm selling a clue for you guys on Ebay.
Prereqs require your country to know what rugby means in Australia. btw rugby isnt spelled hockey.

This whole issue has probably taken up a larger proportion of the cricketing issues this year, hasn't it?

Let us play only cricket.

Was Friday, 7 March 2008 really the last time that there was enough news in the cricketing world to create a new thread? Come on... if you're a cricket lover, there just has to be something more to talk about. Perhaps Steyn's pace? Chanderpaul's last ball six? Anything?

We have fast bowlers in our world like Tait who can't take a Test wicket, yet he generates so much interest that you find two or three articles on this site. Then you have blokes like Dale Steyn, real fast bowlers with heart and a future, going without any any menion in this vicinity. So I ask, is this site only about OZ and India? I hope not. I'm Indian and would be appalled if both our countries have become that arrogant. The ongoing Test series in India is a perfect example of undue arrogance.

JC, I'd rather read your artices than those published by professionals on Cricinfo. Somebody gave you that talent for a reason... please use it. I look forward to seeing some new material.

Mukund, apologies, after periods of intense blogging, I sometimes get a little burnt out and take a bit of a kip. I took about a month's break after the World Cup. It doesn't help that I've upped my activity on my other blog on global warming science. But I have been keeping one eye out for news and haven't seen anything that has moved me to blog about it.

There are supposedly half a dozen other cricket-blog authors too. Fellahs?...

After 3 months of madness we all needed a few weeks to cool down a bit.

I've been glued to the ICL for the past month and a half and the quality of cricket has been really impressive and Its good to see that the concept is turning out to be a success, although it would really help the Indian players if they were to play the longer formats.

The IPL which will start in a few days time should generate some posts. Its already making a lot of headlines with Kolkotta being able to sell only 270 tickets in a week, despite SRK hounding all the channels with his 'naach-gaana', umpteen music videos and harebrained adverts.

But personally I've already started my IPL boycott by refusing tickets and intend to switch off all TV's while the games are on. That way we'd really be raising awareness about 'Earth hour' and actually help save the earth.

I hope I have your cooperation too :)
