India vs Australia, 1st Test, Day 2
Great day of cricket yesterday. A brilliant century by Punter and some really good bowling by Zaheer Khan. The game is evenly poised at the moment with Australia sitting at 4/254. Poor umpiring decisions continue to dog games played between these two great sides. A couple of bad decisions went against Australia but Punter also had what looks to a be a lucky break on 110 against Kumble. Let's hope the umps, particularly Rauf, were just having a bad day and this is not a sign of things to come.
It's looking like Punter and Mr.Cricket are doing their best to make my prediction of a massive Aussie deafeat look silly. Like I said, I don't mind. But I do think we will be happy to get above 400 on this pitch and against this bowling attack.
Here is the link to a live scorecard. Let's continue to keep the comments in the right spirit.

Speculation on the batting order? The scorecard lists it as White, Watson, Haddin, but really these three could come out in any order.
Seems a tough ask to debut White against the new ball, if I were Punter then Haddin would be coming out next.
It didn't look like an easy wicket to score on, though with the lineup of batsmen to follow I'm anticipating a higher scoring rate today.

Australia were robbed several times. There was clear daylight between Haydos' bat and the ball. Punter was hit practically outside the line. And to be totally partisan and one-eyed, I'm not even convinced Michael Clarke was as plumb as the commentators were saying - it looked to be going possibly past off stump. But that doesn't matter - even if he survived, Clarke probably would've got out later that over. Getting out on the last over of the day is what Clarke does best.
Here's the dismissals from Day 1:

The only thing missing so far from the Australian innings was the usual aggressive batting we see from Hayden instead we had more of a grinding day. Maybe thats the plan, tire out the indian batsman with singles so when they come to bat they are too tired to play the quicks.
The umpiring was shocking maybe we do need the 3 appeals.
A big advantage of the 3 appeals is the fun discussion of which captains use their appeals the best. Adds a little more thinking to the game. They just need to add snicko to the tool belt. Though it does make the game a little more quiet.
The only problem is the umpires can just play the better safe than sorry card and not actually umpire anymore.

Khan to Hussey, FOUR, ah, sloppy, real sloppy! Hussey comes forward and drives the ball towards cover, where Ganguly makes a royal mess of it, running across from mid-off, getting down, but letting the ball go through his fingers and legs for a boundary, much to Kumble's frustration

JC Sharma's hairstyle reminds me of 1 Jason Gillespie.
As far as umpiring goes, it was not up to the mark and it is currently favouring India 2 - 1. Hope no controversy arises. Should not as Mr. "Gone fishing" is not there and Bhajji has got a stick warning after the slapgate issue.

Overall another good day of Test cricket. Mr. Cricket was the player of the day. India conceded 50 more runs than they would have hoped for but India is off to a good and quick start. Johnson and Clark got some treatment from the Indian openers. Kumble and Bhajji were to say the least disappointing.
I feel tomorrow will decide where this test will go. The ball is still not very old (18.1 overs old), Sehwag seems in good touch and is nearing a half century. 1st hour of play will be very crucial esp. if it rains a good deal this eve. That might favour the Aussie quicks.
If Sehwag and Ghambir can see off the pacers tomorrow then they might have a party against White and Clark. They seem to be our most inform player right now and are exceptionally good players of spin. They both and to some extent Dravid were the only players who played Mendis well in Lanka.

But truly inspired stuff from Ishant and Zaheer in the 2nd and 3rd sessions, the sort of spells that you need, to beat Australia.
Brought to mind of Simon Jones' slower ball to Clarke and the swinging ball which haunted the Aussies throughout that entire series, and a bit of extra credit to Zaheer, cause there ain't no Murray Mints in India!
On the whole an entertaining day, but a couple of incidents stood out...
Sourav's gateway of India at mid off was hilarious enough, but Kumble's expression which flashed accross the giant screen, was simply priceless.
Also, seeing an annoyed Allan Border was pretty unusual, by the looks of things the "Dads Army" comment didnt go well with a few of the spectators.
As ssukhdial pointed out, the pacers have dominated the game so far and will do so the next day atleast. Lets see how the pace of Lee and the wicket to wicket line of Clark goes against Sehwag, and most importantly, the guy we are all waiting to see, not just any "Tom Dick and Harry" ,but Sourav Ganguly. :-)
