D-word rampant after Braddyline

There's been a big fuss over Brad Haddin's breaking the stumps when Broom was bowled last night. Or as I like to call the controversy: Braddyline. Just imagine if Australia had won the game - we'd have a new underarm incident on our hands. Daniel Vettori was the first to unleash the D-word:

"I think you saw from Haddin's reaction that he knew something was wrong so he probably should have made more noise about it. It is disappointing because I thought that was the partnership that was going to win the game, so it put us under a bit more pressure.

Then Brad Haddin invoked the D-word in response to Vettori's use of the D-word:

"I'm pretty disappointed in Dan that he didn't have the decency to come and speak to me after the game if he had an issue with it rather than air his thoughts in a press conference."

I don't know why everyone is so disappointed or surprised. Cheating wicketkeepers is a cherished Australian tradition. Over the last few decades of our golden age, we were blessed with champion legspinners, fast bowlers, tough as nails captains, dominant openers. That's all gone now. At least allow us a dodgy keeper!

Is Ponting being dropped (at last!) connected to this? I'm going right off this Australian team I can tell you...

Come on Gaz, you can't just ditch our team after a few losses. Sink the boot, sure. Accuse them of being unAustralian, absolutely! But just like family, you can't pick your national team.

I think it'll be interesting to see how we go with Ponting spelled. If Clarke turns out to be a superior captain like Gilly did, well, that will be interesting.

Too little too late: Ponting is dropped - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/7864423.stm

If you see my comments on various posts since Punter was given charge of the team, Cricket Australia has finally paid heed to what I have been saying for years.
All his limitations as leader remain masked when the team was doing well, while I acknowledge him batting skills, I always have maintained he is not a captaincy material.

I'd hardly say he's dropped, quite the contrary.

Anyhoo, here's the YouTube footage of Braddyline for anyone who missed it:

The Haddingate reminds of a much more flagrant example

YellowMonkey, that's an interesting post, I hadn't heard that story. Just further proves the point, a long tradition of cheating Australian wicketkeepers :-)

Cool. Atleast you guys accept the fact that Haddin cheated, very unlike during the Sydney test vs India.

And please take a wild guess, who the umpire was

Hmm, before this gets too serious, take my joking with a grain of salt. There's no way Haddin intentionally broke the stumps. As for whether he was aware of what he did, I wouldn't say for sure but there's a good chance of it. I don't consider it a particularly bad infringement hence the clowning around.

JC, wake up and smell the coffee mate, Ponting has been *dropped* (2009-style) and Haddin *cheated*.

If you want to 'reject reality and replace your own' (as Adam Savage of Mythbusters would say), then Ponting has been 'rested' and Haddin didn't know his gloves were 3" INFRONT of the stumps (grade 5 stuff) when he accidentally appealed for bowled... you're walking on thin ice JC...

Unsuidojo, I am totally with you on the Ponting thing. Yes, hindsight is a marvellous thing but it's pretty obvious that he has the limitations you talk of when his legends aren't present or performing for him.

As a batsman, he is undoubtedly up there with the greats of the game but as a leader, nah, he's just had a dream run. I remember when he was appointed captain I (and others) thought "WHAT?". The thug from Tassie leading our men??? He sulks, he blames and he gets all upset when the media (who he woos at times) criticises him!

The thing is that Clark is just the same but younger. He should never captain an Australian test side (the ultimate accolade) due to his apparent selectiveness of when to play. He'll throw a sickie when the going gets tough, believe me. He'll site his girlfriend or her cat or anything to get out of a Bangladesh tour...

Yeah JC, comeon really. Haddin clearly knew he was cheating. He knew he had broken the stumps and he knew Ponting would have his back. I am generally in agreement of what you say, but not here, I am sorry. Haddin cheating was blatant, and Ponting's support was equally ridiculous. The Australian cricket team's integrity is there for all to see, and the Aussie board is now panicking, trying to get rid of the older cheats who are now failing to deliver (Ponting, Hayden, Symonds). I would say Indian tour to Australia is where the cookie crumbled.

I really am disappointed that Andrew Symonds is not going to SA.
As a cricketer he is superb. I really dont want to talk about his other antics.
Australia will be all the weaker for not having him. All the talk of "building for the future" is so much hogwash - you play each game and each series to win. You dont give your opponents any scope or opportunity. You do EVERYTHING in your power to beat them!

yeah but Chas, if you keep chopping and changing the 11, the continuity isn't there and every game seems like a new team. Once the TEAM of 8 or so regulars are established they push on - something the ACB seems totally blind to these days...
