2009 Ashes, 5th Test, Day 2: Crunch time for the 2009 Ashes

You get the feeling England just let the Ashes slip through their fingers yesterday. At 1 for 100, they were poised to set an imposing first innings total. Instead, all their batsmen got starts then threw their wickets away. At stumps, they were 8 for 300, a well under par total for such a flat wicket.

Their only hope lies in taking lots of Aussie wickets today. If they can dismiss Australia cheaply and achieve a first innings lead, they're still in with a sniff. If Australia bat out 4 or 5 sessions, it's all over. The next two days will decide the Ashes. Bat on, boys!

Mindboggling tactics by Broad. Either he trusts his Harmi so much or he just wants to bowl. He should try n keep the strike

It looks like a pitch where wickets could fall in a heap, so its important the openers keep it going after lunch. And it was good to see Watson and Katich grind it out, gripping session.

And rain stops play. Every rain drop is like a tear shed by English cricket. Loving it.

If ENG were to get their hands on their ashes....their bowlers should get to hold it first!!!

I’ve got that old familiar Ashes morning sickness again… My guts feel sick, my blood is angried up and I’m looking for a reason.
Straya can’t expect Ponting to get 100 EVERY innings can they? Once he’s out cheaply (talk about bad timing here) the rest collapse? Must be more to it than that. Katich (the best unbowled spinner in Australia) went OK but what the hell were Clarke, Hussey and Haddin thinking…

OK, Broad’s spell was a corker – once in a lifetime job for many given the timing, and some of the umpiring decisions were a good advert for the referral system but really, if you lose 10 for 87 you have a flaw. Surely after 4 quick wickets even Australia has to go into ‘night watchman mode’.

Well, I still have faith in my boys but if Ponting manages to lose this series when we’ve score 7 tons versus England’s one, then he simply must go as a captain – the only captain to lose the Ashes WITH the INVINCIBLES will become the only captain to lose TWO Ashes. I’m actually throwing up as I type this you know…

Ok If Oz can even draw from here it will be a miracle... The pitch is an absolute shocker, but the batting was pathetic as well. And there's Hauritz sitting in the shed!

Got to be Hussey's last Test for sure! I think the selectors have put up with his poor form in the belief he would come good in England. Hasn't happened. What will Ponting do - will he retire or go for revenge in Oz next year?

I thought from the first they would regret that last wicket in Cardiff!

Problem is Australia deserve to lose the Ashes the way they've played, but England don't deserve to win either!

Well in the end one of the teams are going to win!!

Right now i feel that England can win the ASHES but we all know how the Aussies can be when we least expect it, so i think its a 50/50 chance for both teams!!!
